Lavender (Lavendula Officinalis) has been used for centuries for aromatic purposes as it has a soothing and calming effect on the nerves, relieving tension, depression, panic, hysteria and nervous exhaustion in general and is effective for faintness, nervous palpitations, headaches, migraines and insomnia; thus, the prevalent use of lavender in "dream" pillows for centuries. Many medieval European herbalists used the Lavender to treat insomnia and other sleep disorders, by placing small dried bundles inside their patients’ pillows.
